Flash project

November 9, 2011

Melody, Sarah, and myself are all in a group together, our project idea is to create a videogame where you play as a shark with a laser on it’s head killing jellyfish in space until you eventually get to a boss to defeat at the end

The audience is really just us and nerdy people like us. so 15-25 year olds who spend too much time online.

moving through a 2d landscape like this

boss fight something like this

we want it to look like a retro 8-bit videogame like this

we’re going to use cc licensed music from the interwebs for the game, here’s a potential song for the end battle with the boss

In class we practiced making stuff with flash, and I made this!

Reading Response #4

Well, I couldn’t login to download the file, so I can’t write a response for this yet.. hopefully by the end of the day tomorrow

I wasn’t sure how to link it the same way as Brittney(my vancouver partner) did, so I borrowed her link here

We had a bit of trouble with our San Fransisco partners not keeping up with our production schedule, and we ran into many technical difficulties as well, but now I at least have a basic knowledge of the program

Our idea is basically outlining the different districts within Vancouver and San Fransisco, and then adding points of interest into each district (our favourite places, restaurants, shops, parks, tourist attractions, etc), and then having a guided tour covering all the districts in Vancouver then going across the Lion’s Gate Bridge onto the Golden Gate Bridge and into San Fransisco and touring all the districts there.

Production Schedule:

October 30th- all walls and points completed

October 31st- tour created

November 1st- San Fransisco project due in class

November 2nd- Vancouver project due in class

This article is overflowing with pseudo intellectual language that takes over the entire article, the further you read, the more skewed and convoluted the point of Griffis becomes. His point has become completely irrelivant because nothing makes sense and it is impossible to read.

Not being able to hack through his mess of overcomplicated speech, I have no idea what he was talking about and therefore have nothing to reply to except his horrid writing skills.

The idea of interactive art where audience participation is manditory is one of my favourite forms of art. I love being thrown into the mind of the artist and getting to play around with their ideas in a physical way.

I find the idea of systems interactive art where the viewer is not directly interacting with the piece far less appealing because you don’t get that direct connection with the piece, it’s like looking at a painting, and with the example of the Listening Post piece I think it would be less interesting to be a part of simply because there isn’t much to interact with. The system is interacting with the internet, so you can’t actually see the process of interaction, it’s all done within the program, so really all you’re seeing is the end result.
